At last.. at last… maybe not the complete ‘silver bullet’ we’ve been hoping for, but we’ve had some good news this week with a possible vaccine that could be available generally within weeks.
Could these unprecedented times (cliché no.1) and depressing months since March 2020 possibly be coming to an end?
We have unfortunately seen many thousands of deaths and mayhem throughout the world as this disease has no respect for class or location. In the UK we have seen many industries decimated but none more than the hospitality sector.
Every day on LinkedIn, we see sad stories of ex-colleagues and friends having been made redundant. This means many really excellent people are still looking for a job within the industry or thinking now is the time to try something new….if there is anything available to go to.
Hotel groups and small independent properties have struggled over the last few months trying everything they can to survive this crisis. Many have just shut the door, furloughed staff whilst others have looked at an ‘adapting or die’ attitude and embraced new technology – such as virtual/hybrid meetings, offering takeaway food or ‘snacks in the garden’.
Our partner venues at Trident have all come together through our zoom meetings, to discuss ideas and possible business pipelines moving forward. We have also seen many agents join our series of ‘Tea with Trident’, where we have an informal discussion on where they are at and how we can work together now and in the months to come.
Trident Hospitality has launched their ‘#SafeonSite’ programme whereby on set dates agents (plus any clients) can book appointments at member venues and experience how safe and prepared they are to welcome guests.
This is also being promoted in conjunction with the HBAA and their own ‘#MeetSafeMeetSmart30’ campaign to help showcase the fact that hotels and conference centres are indeed places to go to and do business with confidence.
With a possible end in sight to this Covid-19 nightmare, we know it won’t be easy and we’re going to have to adapt to the ‘new normal’ (cliché no.2), but as an industry those in the meetings and events sector are ready to fight back. We think 2021 could be the best year yet in so many ways!
