Bedford Lodge's very own 'masterchef'

The Newmarket venue's senior Sous Chef recently appeared on the BBC programme MasterChef...

Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa's senior Sous Chef Jamie Mountford has recently competed in the BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals, saying the experience has given him a confidence boost.

Jamie, age 30, was eliminated from the show last week after the name of his signature dish in the ‘skills test’ let him down.

Speaking to Cambridge News Jamie said although doing well on the task, his chosen name for the dish possibly prevented him from getting through to the next round.

Despite this, the Trident Hospitality partner venue’s chef said the experience had been a ‘highlight of his career’.

“I’m buzzing,” Jamie said. “[The show] was a massive confidence boost for me. The highlight of my career. And I’ve learnt a lot about myself.”

Jamie said this year he would like a female to win the TV series to help inspire more young girls to work in the hospitality industry as chefs.

He said: “I hope that one of the girls wins this year, because I think they’ve done really well considering it’s a really man-dominated industry. They don’t usually have ego and they just go with the flow really.”
