High praise for Speech House fam trip weekend

Following on from the successful familiarisation trip held at the hotel over bonfire weekend in November, Trident has received some very positive feedback...

The free venue finding service Choice Locations recently posted the following review on their website regarding Trident and the venue The Speech House Hotel:

“What a fabulous bonfire weekend, thanks to Martin Dempster from Trident Hospitality, at The Speech House Hotel which is a former 17th century hunting lodge set in the heart of the idyllic Royal Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

“I arrived on Saturday 7th November, with my partner and daughter Erin around midday and we were welcomed by Martin and the delightful owners Mr and Mrs Hands. We had afternoon tea in the conservatory overlooking the cricket pitch which was being set up for the bonfire party. We were then treated to a lovely show round of the hotel and talk on its great historic past.

“At 6.30 pm we all met for dinner in the The Verderer's Court. This historic room has been a court for the Verderers since 1696.The Verderers Court of attachment is still scheduled to be held every 40 days at The Speech House.

“The Court sits on average 4 times a year when matters concerning the Forest are discussed. The Verderers are still appointed by the crown and are paid a Doe and a Buck a year (although none of the present Verderers have claimed their “salary” since taking office!).

“In the courtroom an open hearth faces the western wall and at the south end there is a low raised gallery or dais of oak. Nineteen pairs of antlers still adorn the walls as they have for centuries. On the east wall lie the two royal spades used in 1957 by HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip to plant two oak trees over the road from the courtroom.

“Also in the Courtroom are the Verderers brass plaque of the Royal Coat of Arms and the card advertising the Courts proceedings. Visitors come from afar to view this room which retains all its original features.

“At 7.00 pm we made our way over to the cricket pitch where there was a fun fair, food stalls, and a huge bonfire. The firework display was amazing and very spectacular.
We went back for a warm hot chocolate and then retired to our room – this was a beautiful family room in the courtyard of the hotel.

“Breakfast the next day was lovely in front of a roaring fire in the Verderers Restaurant and then we left and went for a lovely drive through the Royal Forest of Dean.

“Thanks once again to Martin Dempster of Trident Hospitality as well as Mr and Mrs Hands.”
