The REP: More Than Just A Theatre

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre has a variety of spaces available to hold conferences, events and meetings, with flexibility in what they can offer.

Home to exciting, entertaining and enlightening theatrical experiences, the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (REP) has been a cultural gem in the city for many years.

However the theatre also caters to the event industry offering flexible, high specification meeting and banqueting rooms for up to 170 people. The venue has multiple tiered auditoria’s that can be hired for a wide range of events and cater up to a capacity of 825 people. There are also a number of opportunities available for clients, from backstage tours to various corporate theatrical workshops.

In the heart of Birmingham, within walking distance of all three mainline train stations and an onsite car park, the REP is in a great location.

Suzanna Reid Barreiro da Silva, Sales and Marketing Manager at the Birmingham REP, believes the venue can suit any occasion.

“Here at the REP we’re a unique venue, with a variety of spaces available right in the city centre,” Suzanna said.

“We can offer specifications for different types of events with our auditoriums, our flat floor spaces and also our open-air spaces with great natural daylight.

“The REP is a theatre and that is our core business, but we offer a very special venue to corporate clients to hold events and conferences.

“We’re flexible. We can do dinners on the main stage, incorporate clients meeting actors and having pre-dinner drinks with them, tours of the dressing rooms and even seeing a show in-between the dinner,” Suzanna said.

There is also the opportunity during the day for corporates to participate in different activities for team building such as ‘Scar Bars’, where you can get your hands dirty creating fake injuries, ‘Body Combat’ where you show off your stage fighting skills on the main stage and also the chance to have vocal coaching.

“The Birmingham REP can cater to so many different kind of events, from a small meeting, large gala dinner or a conference,” Suzanna said.

Justin Dilks, Business Development Manager at ‘Arrange my Group’ (formerly Book-O-Tel), shares his thoughts on the Birmingham REP after his recent visit to see The Kings Speech.

“As part of my job I go out on venue site visits with clients on a weekly basis,” Justin said.

“I was impressed with the REP as it’s so different to the other theatres in the city. It’s just so open.

“The space available really is a unique selling point, and in some ways it’s better for a conference than it is for a show. It’s not like the old fashioned theatres with the stalls and downstairs seating, it’s open and airy. You could hold a conference or event there for up to 800 people with the space.

“Although it’s a non-residential venue, the location of the REP works well as you’re close to Broad Street where there’s quite a few hotels.

Justin has already looked at what clients could potentially use the REP for events.

“I envisage Not-for-profit organisations using the REP as it’s a big venue. For the clients we look after, often the numbers are much higher, and there’s not a great deal of big venues in Birmingham that are very accessible. The bigger event spaces that are available in Birmingham, often just have too much of a big-budget for our clients.

“I would definitely recommend the REP to my clients for future events.”
