The WI celebrate centenary at HIC

The Women's Institute will mark their 100 year anniversary at Harrogate International Centre, September 2015

Harrogate International Centre (HIC) is to host a four-day celebration to mark 100 years of the Women’s Institute (WI) this September.

Thousands of people are expected to visit the first WI Centennial Fair, launched this year to mark a century of the world famous organisation.

The event will take over four of HIC’s biggest event halls as well as The Royal Hall theatre and will features over 200 exhibitors, a Live Kitchen Theatre and over 150 hands-on seminars and workshops.

HIC director Simon Kent said: “This is a real honour for HIC and for Harrogate. This year is the hundredth anniversary of the WI and they have not only chosen Harrogate to celebrate the milestone but also to launch this new concept which looks like becoming a great annual event.

“This isn’t a closed WI show, this is a huge four-day public show celebrating the very best in cookery, gardening, homeware, travel and crafts. We are gearing up for some 18,000 visitors over the four days.”

Diana Birch, Chair of WI Enterprises, said: ‘We’ve created an event in honour of our centenary year to celebrate all that’s great about the WI, reflect members’ interests and share them with the wider public.’

The National Federation of Women’s Institutes have commissioned Upper Street Events to organise the fair.

The WI Centennial Fair will run from 3-6 September, from 10am-5pm daily. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit:
